Uzbekistan's Javrail Shapiev suffers a defeat to Hassan Yazdanicharati of Iran in the wrestling opening contest

Javrail Shapiev dropped his first match in the men's freestyle competition at the 2020 Olympic Games on Tuesday, a stunning 11-2 loss to Iran’s Hassan Yazdanicharati in the opening round at 86 kilograms.

Certainly, it was a clear race between the top three ranked contenders - #1 David Taylor, #2 Hassan Yazdanicharati, and #3 Artur Naifonov in this weight class in 2020 Tokyo.

Yazdanicharati had the next biggest threat outside the big three, #7 ranked Javrail Shapiev of Uzbekistan. He tried to give Yazdanicharati a match, but he had released his some weak points and suffered a defeat keeping a hope for bronze medal contest.
